LiiKe started in January 2026 a new football and health education project in Goliati Primary and Secondary schools in Malawi.
Malawi’s primary and secondary schools face severe challenges: overcrowded classrooms, lack of sports facilities, teacher shortages, and high dropout rates. Goliati schools, with almost 2,500 pupils attending, suffer from extremely poor sports environment. The fields are exposed as parking places for local commuter busses and the surface of the fields is rough and full of stones and bricks.
Football and physical education offer a unique opportunity to enhance health, education, gender equality, and community cohesion. The duration of the project is six months.
Project goals are for example,
– to use football and physical education as tools for improving health, education outcomes, gender equality, and youth empowerment at Goliati Primary and Secondary Schools.
– Improve access to safe and inclusive sports and football facilities
– Provide training and resources for teachers in PE and coaching
– Promote health education, hygiene, and active lifestyles among pupils
– Encourage gender equality and inclusion of girls and vulnerable youth in sports
– Reduce school dropouts
– Strengthen community involvement
